As part of a broader strategy to launch the Young Achievers Club in selected Junior and Senior High Schools within the Yendi Municipality, Yendi Youth Connect (YYC) has begun its rollout of the “Drugs Steal Dreams” campaign—an impactful substance abuse awareness initiative aimed at engaging, educating, and empowering young people.
On Thursday, June 20, 2025, the YYC team visited three Junior High Schools: SDA JHS, Yendi Girls JHS, and Presbyterian JHS. These sessions marked the first phase of the campaign, reaching over 300 students with critical information about the dangers of drug and substance abuse.
Led by youth advocate Mr. Shaibu Sulemana, the outreach featured a series of interactive presentations, motivational speeches, and video screenings designed to foster awareness, spark dialogue, and encourage healthy, purpose-driven decision-making among adolescents.
“This campaign is more than just a warning about drugs,” said Mr. Sulemana. “It’s about helping young people rediscover their self-worth, understand their power, and realize that their dreams are valid—and worth protecting.”
The initiative also served as an introduction to the Young Achievers Club, a school-based leadership and mentorship program that will soon be established in each participating school. The club will focus on helping students build self-confidence, develop leadership skills, and become positive role models in their schools and communities.
YYC expressed its sincere appreciation to the Yendi Municipal Education Directorate, along with the headteachers and teachers of the visited schools, for their warm reception and strong support for this critical youth-focused initiative.
Following the successful JHS engagements, the campaign will continue next week in Senior High Schools across Yendi, including Yendi SHS and Dagbon State SHS. After completing school-based activities, YYC will take the campaign into public spaces and neighborhoods, targeting out-of-school youth through street-level outreach and community forums.
The campaign forms a critical entry point for the rollout of the Young Achievers Club and represents YYC’s long-term commitment to building resilient youth, combating drug abuse, and promoting leadership and civic engagement among young people in Yendi.
